Breeze founded Instar Lodge in 2016 as a creative sanctuary for women and mother artists—for residencies, exhibits, and a home for her Creativity + Courage™ workshops. It quickly grew into a beloved community anchor in Germantown, NY, supporting hundreds of artists through publications, exhibitions, workshops, screenings, co-working circles, book clubs, and roving community conversations with community partnerships.
The name Instar refers to the stage between two molts—a time of transformation—and also means “to make a star of.” True to its name, Instar Lodge became a space of becoming and brilliance, where creative risk and renewal were not only possible, but celebrated with both emerging and established artists.
Located in a 19th-century Odd Fellows Hall—originally called Halcyon Lodge—the building holds a history of inclusive fellowship. The Odd Fellows, the first fraternal order to admit women (The Rebekahs), were artists and tradespeople who supported one another in generosity and craft. Their motto, Truth, Love, and Friendship, lived on in the spirit of Instar Lodge.
